Stults Road Named Finalist For
National Title I Distinguished Status
08/24/10
Stults Road Elementary has been named by the Texas Education Agency as one of just six schools in Texas eligible to be considered for nomination as a 2010 National Title I Distinguished School. This achievement places SRE among the top six Title I schools in Texas in terms of student performance, including commended rates. The National Title I Distinguished School recognition program honors schools across the United States for their innovation in helping Title I populations achieve high educational standards.

Stults Road Elementary will be visited in September by state officials to help determine if they will be one of the two Texas nominations of Commissioner of Education Robert Scott to the National Association of State Title I Directors. The two nominated schools from Texas may then be named National Title I Award winners in January, 2011.

Congratulations to Stults Road Elementary staff, students, parents, community and principal Darwin Spiller!

It’s Official – RISD Recognized Again 07/29/10
The Texas Education Agency today confirmed that Richardson ISD has earned a Recognized rating for 2010 under the Texas accountability system. This is the fifth consecutive year RISD has earned the rating. RISD is the largest, most diverse district in Texas to have achieved Recognized status for five consecutive years.

Every RISD campus received a rating of Exemplary (42 schools) or Recognized (11 schools).

“I extend sincere congratulations and gratitude to our teachers, students and staff, whose commitment, hard work and talent have spurred RISD’s continued academic growth,” said Superintendent Dr. Kay Waggoner. "I thank our Council of PTAs, volunteers, taxpayers and community partners for their ongoing support. Successful public schools are an important part of any strong community, and the children of our district benefit from and appreciate the passionate efforts of the thousands of people who support them."

Commended rates, which measure the percentage of students passing TAKS at the mastery level, again rose for most students in most subjects.

“Our continued success under the state accountability system is a significant and well-recognized indicator of RISD’s success, but it is not the only measure,” said Waggoner. “As with every year, we’re evaluating all available indicators to determine our strengths and opportunities for continuous improvement.”

Individual RISD campus ratings for 2010 can be viewed here.

TEA will publicly announce all district and school ratings on Friday afternoon, July 30. For additional information, please visit the Texas Education Agency website at www.tea.state.tx.us/.
